Karen Blixen Museum is a colonial-era house, where Baroness Karen Blixen lived with her husband. The Oscar-winning movie ‘Out of Africa’ was based on Karen Blixen’s life in Kenya, based on her autobiographical book. The house was built in 1912 and bought by the couple in 1917, and it became the farmhouse for their 4500-acre farm, of which 600 acres were used for coffee farming. A visit to this museum provides an opportunity to step back in time and gain an insight into this remarkable woman’s life. Views of the Ngong Hills can be admired from the beautiful landscaped gardens of the museum.
The Entry Fee is $15 PER PERSON(ADULT OR CHILD), APPROXIMATELY Ksh. 1,500 per person in Kenyan Shillings. The museum is open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. All year round, including public holidays and weekends.
Night tours are exclusive to organized groups of at least 10 people. A request can be made through bookings for night tours. The museum will be open from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, except when there’s a private function held
You can also combine this trip with a trip to the nearby Giraffe Centre plus you will be able to stop at a nearby restaurant for lunch
Itinerary
Our driver will pick you up from your hotel at 9:30 AM for a transfer to the Karen Blixen museum. Spend an hour at the museum, where you will get to view the trees with plenty of birds living in the area. All the trees are labeled to help in identification and learning. There is also a shop which offers a wide range of souvenirs, including handicrafts from the movie ‘Out of Africa’. At 12:00 PM, you will then be transferred back to your hotel, or depending on your schedule, you can be able to visit the nearby Giraffe centre and after that enjoy a lovely afternoon lunch.
