Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park, Kenya’s second most popular park, lies to the South of the country, near its border with Tanzania. It features stunning views of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro as well as one of the largest populations of free-range Elephants in Africa. The Elephants here are renowned for having incredible long tusks, leading them to acquire the moniker, ‘Super Tuskers’. This one day excursion serves as an introduction, a taste of safaris in Kenya and the beauty this wonderful country has to offer.

Itinerary

One-Day Tour

  • Depart from your residence early at 5.a.m on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. Witness a luminous Kenya sunrise lighting up the countryside dotted with homesteads and brightly outfitted Maasai herdsmen with their cattle.
  • Within 3 – 4 hours, arrive and start the adventure with your first game drive. With Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background (weather permitting), you’ll see herds of protected elephants, many sporting immense ivory tusks. For even more wildlife viewing, you’ll take a ride up to Observation Hill. This vantage point will give you an overall panoramic view of the entire park. Check out the swamps below where the elephants gather daily. You can also walk around on the hill as it’s one of the few places in the park you can explore on foot.
  • The birdlife is also plentiful in Amboseli, especially around the swamps and marshlands of the park. You’ll find raptors and also water birds like pelican, Pink flamingoes, crake and kingfisher and others. This is a bird lover’s version of paradise.
  • If you’d like you can take an optional visit with the Maasai to meet them and learn about their culture and lifestyle. The indigenous Maasai people live within the park’s borders. (time permitting)
  • Settle in at Amboseli serena lodge for lunch, one of the nicest restaurants in the park at around 12.30 p.m. and enjoy a sumptuous lunch or you may carry your own picnic lunch to be enjoyed at the observation hill.
  • After lunch, enjoy a short enroute game drive as you exit the park. This will be a shorter tour, but you may spot elephants roaming from the marshes as they tend to later in the day. Having taken in the best of Amboseli, head back to the highway and to the capital city of Nairobi, arriving in the evening.
