Despite being in the wilderness. The Masai Mara has some amazing tented camps, specifically tented camps and lodges, which have been built and established with great effort over the years. Most of these luxury Tented Camps and Safari lodges are international award winners.
Luxury Tented Camps & Lodges in Masai Mara
The Masai Mara has some of the most luxurious safari camps in Africa. These camps tend to be small, boutique-type properties that are designed to merge into the surroundings and operate to the highest eco-friendly standards. The underlying idea is to offer luxury while being as close to nature as possible, recreating the safari experience of decades ago, where just a canvas tent separated one from the elements and the wild animals.

Upper Mid-range Camps
This is a more affordable option that still offers a superior experience. The Masai Mara has several camps and lodges, which are less costly than the more exclusive properties while still being located within the reserve and offering guests a rewarding experience. We like to classify these as Upper Mid-range properties. Many of these camps have more lodge-like features and tend to be larger than the small exclusive or mobile camps and usually come with swimming pools, a common area, and a well-stocked gift shop, with some coming with Spas.

Budget Camps
Budget Camps in the Masai Mara have been a more recent development, meant to cater to the price-conscious traveller. Most hotels classified as budget properties are located outside the main Mara Reserve boundary. Game drives would still be inside the main reserve and would mean entering and exiting the park for each game drive.

Safari Lodges
Lodges in the Masai Mara are designed to give a traveller the feeling of being accommodated in a hotel while still retaining the feel of a property built in the wilderness. A well-designed lodge will share certain elements of a camp, with extensive use of local materials and use of design that blends the structure into the environment. Lodges tend to have larger common areas, likely include a swimming pool, and have rooms. The rooms are more like a hotel room in terms of design and comfort they provide, while still maintaining the feel of a safari.
